Area Law Enforcement
Roughly fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.
Law enforcement say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then found multiple other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say preliminary tests suggest the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; investigators are currently not aware of any injuries in association with the event," they stated.
City officials said they were trying "to unravel the case" and have asked to the community for details.
An important political figure said the incident made him speechless and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he stated on online, referring to the death of nine victims by a gunman targeting people of migrant background in five years prior.
